FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE U.S. Drone Strike in Somalia Kills Innocent Mother and Daughter, Family Demands Justice.

April 1, 2024Mogadishu, Somalia – On April 1, 2018, a U.S. drone strike in rural Somalia mistakenly killed 22-year-old Luul Dahir and her 4-year-old daughter, Mariam, due to flawed intelligence. The two were traveling in a pickup truck when the strike, based on incomplete surveillance, targeted them as militants.

Despite the Pentagon acknowledging civilian casualties, no accountability was taken for their deaths, and no compensation was offered to the family.

Luul’s brother, Qasim Dahir, found their bodies at the strike site, devastated by the loss. Human rights organizations continue to demand justice for the family, calling for a full investigation into the incident and better safeguards to prevent such tragic mistakes. The case highlights the dangers of drone warfare and the urgent need for accountability in military operations abroad.
